California Wellness: What is Cannabis Micro-Dosing?

Welcome to the 'Cannabis Club'.

We're a new type of user... Millennial cannabis consumers aren't your stereotypical 'stoners' or 'pot heads' and these days edible options aren't limited to just junk food and sugary treats. In fact, today, cannabis doesn't have to be looked at so dramatically. Cannabis products are no longer living up to their anxiety-producing or couch-locking reputations. Products are now available with much smaller amounts of active substances allowing users to have more control over the effects of the cannabis they consume. Less is more

MICRO-DOSING or dose-regulated medical marijuana is a lot different than the homemade brownie edibles you're probably familiar with. Today, consuming cannabis is cleaner, safer and dosing is more consistent. The Cannabis plant is made up of more than 60 active cannabinoids, including the psycho-active THC and the neuro-protective Cannabidiol (CBD). Cannabinoids can now be isolated and extracted from the cannabis sativa plant and with micro-dosing, patients can accurately control their dosage.

In California, cannabis-infused products are lab-tested for harmful additives and pesticides to ensure a more consistent experience as it makes its way into the hands of more and more users due to its numerous and undeniable medical benefits for treating chronic pain, nausea, cramping, anxiety, depression, insomnia, loss of appetite that accompanies emotional distress and so much more.

The most compelling reason people are exploring cannabis is for its natural anti-inflammatory, anti-pain properties. As sales of prescription pain medication increases and overdoses related to prescription opioids climbs every year, cannabis is showing promise as a natural alternative to highly addictive, opioid-derived prescription pain medication.

"MINDFUL Cannabis consumption is all about staying in control and coming into balance."

What is micro-dosing?

Micro-dosing is taking a small, personalized  dose of cannabis to experience it's medical effects. Everybody is different and every body is unique. Micro-dosing enables a patient to control how much medication they take, starting small and increasing the dosage as needed.

Why micro-dosing?

The purpose of micro-dosing is to limit over-medicating. It's the idea of taking the minimum effective dose that provides benefit and relief. Taking smaller, regulated doses keep you disciplined and in control, reducing the chance of negative side effects or reactions that come from the overconsumption of cannabis.

With micro-dosing edibles, there is no smell, no smoke, and no marijuana taste. Consuming small, descrete, easy to conceal edibles like Kiva's Petra Mints (which contain 2.5mg of THC), remove the shame and social stigma while defying the couch-locked stoner stereotype. Micro-dosing is a sophisticated way to consume marijuana for medical use because it's easy to control your dosage. Micro-doses range from 2.5-10 mg which are relatively average single doses.

All doses are created equal but not everyone requires the same dosage.

The individual-dependent nature of cannabis use means that body type, the day, mood, appetite, tolerance, and sleep habits are all considerations.

Always start small and increase in increments to find your balanced dosage.

What's the difference between THC and CBD?

THC: Psychoactive cannabinoid known to elevate mood.

CBD: Neuro-protective cannabinoids used to treat anxiety, reduce inflammation and alleviate physical discomfort. CBD is known as the non-psychoactive counterpart to the more well known THC. CBD is becoming increasingly popular with patients who seek relief through cannabis without being subjected to the unpredictable psychoactive high produced by THC-dominant cannabis.

CBD + THC: When taken with a dose of THC, CBD appears to have a calming, sedative effect to counterbalance the psychoactive effects of THC.
